Waste not, want not
Westray Development Trust carried out a survey and discovered that the community would like to tackle food waste on the island. With a few mini consultations were able to secure funding from Hubbub and the Community Led Local Development Fund to develop a Community Fridge.
The idea is to tackle food waste not poverty. People can donate food they know they won’t get used before it spoils and hopefully someone else in the community will be able to use it. Our local shops are also helping us out with stock.
A local competition was held and the name “waste not, want not” suggested by Fiona Thomson and decided by the Westray Development Trust Board.
