Westray Fuel Grant 2019 Policy

57% of Orkney households spend over 10% of household income on household fuel with a further 23% spending over 20%. Both these figures are considerably higher than the national average. In response to this and funding becoming available due to an underspend in the Community Turbine Grant Fund. WDT has established a Westray Fuel Grant in 2019 of £150 per household to support Westray homes with their winter fuel bills. The grant is open to every domestic household in Westray which feels they would benefit from it. Due to restrictions in charity law businesses, second homes and holiday-lets are not eligible to apply. Households which are connected to a business and so don’t have a separate domestic energy supply should attach a letter from their accountant which states what % of their energy use is domestic to be eligible. Applicants must be permanent Westray residents and the domestic bill-payer, only one application is accepted per household. The level/availability of a Westray Fuel Grant Fund in future years will be subject to there one again being available funding as well as WDT Board annual review and approval.

Qualifying applicants will have £150 paid directly to their domestic energy provider or credited to an existing electricity key card by March 31st 2020 at the latest. Applicants should attach a recent energy bill to their application for WDT to be able to process successful grants efficiently.

The deadline for applications is 5pm Friday 29th November 2019.
