Corinne Curtis (through the learning centre) successfully applied for £200 to run a youth First Aid course on the island.

Another six people were successful in applying for a training grant for the Safe use of pesticides course: Alistair Harcus, Thomas Bain, Andrew Seatter, Richard Jarvis, Raymond Rendall and Elizabeth Drever.

Kevin and Ann Rendall of Pierowall Fish were also successful in their application for a training grant towards First Aid in the Workplace.

Following on from the success of last year’s scheme, the Community Council has applied for funding for the road materials scheme. WDT have granted £3,333 towards this project.

Westray Sailing Club successfully applied for £5,500 funding for a youth sail training scheme.

Under the entertainment events grant scheme, Sandy McEwen was awarded £66.80 towards the travel costs for Jo Philby and her band. Westray Community council was granted £1,000 for bringing the Salvation Army to Westray for the tree lighting ceremony.

Corinne Curtis received £24 for costs of a genealogy course, Nicholas Wood got £20 for a pig butchery course and Sophia Gair was awarded funding under the driving lessons scheme (i.e. funding for 50% of lessons, up to a maximum of 10).

Under the statutory training scheme, Westray Processors Ltd got funding for Tim Libicki for Emergency First Aid at Work course (amount to be confirmed once full course costs are known) and there was another five successful applicants for the pesticides training, testing and national registration course for farmers. They were Norman Rendall, William Drever, Steven Drever, Brian Scott and Thomas Pottinger. The amount of funding awarded to each is dependent on which courses they attended and whether or not they are eligible for ILA. We will confirm the total funding awarded in a future report.

Under the entertainment events grant scheme this month, the Westray Swim Club was successful in applying for £927.90 for band costs for the Harvest Home and Sandy McEwen received £60 for travel costs for Jo Philby and her new band to perform at the West Manse following the success of the last event.

The inter-kirk group were awarded £250 to help towards costs of the island wide Christmas card which details events happening over the festive period.

Westray Heritage Trust applied for £1250 for consultancy costs to engage someone to source funding for the heritage centre and projects. It was decided that WDT would offer Andy’s time to the same value to take on this work for the Heritage Trust.

There were two training grant applications this month from Christine Turnbull and Cynthia Jacobs to do advance Sage training. Each applicant was awarded £60.
